Digital Marketing: How To Increase Visitor Conversions and Decrease Bounce Rate

What is a bounce rate?

Your bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who come to your website without viewing any pages and without taking any actions.  Google Analytics will be your main port of call for analysing your bounce rate and keeping check on it.

Google Analytics will give you a percentage; so if your average bounce rate is 60%, this means that 60% of the people that click onto your website will have left after only viewing the landing page. If this all sounds a little confusing, then get in touch with iocea web analytics agency Lincoln for support.

Essentially you need to look at your bounce rate and understand that your website, for whatever reason, isn’t retaining 60% of its visitors.  A percentage of this will be through wrong clicks, however, it may be pointing to an issue with your landing page content/relevance or overall website design.  You may also need to look at your SEO or PPC and see if you are actually attracting the right people; often using the wrong phrases or wording can attract the wrong clicks and be costly to your business, leaving you with a high and perhaps misleading bounce rate.  The key is to make sure that once visitors land on a page, they are drawn in to visiting even more pages throughout your site and ultimately make a desired action.

What is a conversion?

In eCommerce terms, your conversion rate is the percentage of people that take a desired action on your site, whether this be making a purchase or allowing you to capture their data. Improving email sign ups, increasing traffic and gaining leads is a goal for every business. But if your bounce rate is high you may be struggling to do this.

If this is the case, ultimately it could be your landing page that is not enticing people enough. Encourage visitors to fill in newsletter sign up, or include clear call-to-actions to encourage them to behave a certain way on your site. For example, below, premium fashion brand De La Vali encourage visitors to fill in their contact information. This would be classed as a conversion, as would a visitor completing a purchase.

What makes a good landing page?

You may be wondering what is classed as a ‘good’ landing page…

A recent study revealed that websites with 40 or more landing pages received 12x more leads than those with 5 or fewer landing pages!

Our advice would be this;

- Your landing pages and especially your home-page, need to be well designed and hold relevant subject information.

- They need to be clear and easy to understand, as well as fully navigable.

- If your page is broken or temperamental, your bounce rate will increase as visitors will not be willing to take the time to figure your page navigation out.

- If you have a high bounce rate it may be time for you to invest some time into your content marketing or even a redesign of your site. In most cases it may not be necessary to have a complete re-design, but instead, you could invest in IOCEA’s product, Konvert.

Konvert

Konvert is an exit intent software product that can be seamlessly integrated into your website and aims to keep your customers engaged to potentially convert them. With behavioural offers and personalisation, the campaign builder allows you to create numerous campaigns based on different rules of customer behaviour.

What is Exit Intent? Exit Intent technology monitors mouse movements of website visitors and detects when a visitor is likely to leave the website without making a purchase. This is when Konvert jumps in and captures their attention; either with an offer such as ‘10% off their next order’ or ‘free next day delivery’.  Konvert can even be used to capture data to increase your marketing database; so you could offer ‘10% off’ in return for an email address. Whether you aim to promote special offers or capture email addresses to enhance your marketing database, Konvert can enhance and potentially increase your online sales. With customers reporting sales of over £40,000 per month with a single Konvert campaign, it is proven to engage your customers and increase your customer retention.
